System Three 3105S16 White Silica Thickener is a fumed silica used to thicken epoxy or polyester resins. This product is not suitable as a flotant for fly fishing but can be used to stiffen ceramic fiber blankets. The product comes in a low-density fine powder and can be used as a paint thickener to provide texture. Despite it being a good thickener for some applications, a customer reported the product to be very chunky, ball up, and hard to mix. Other brands she used did not have that problem. Another customer has used it to thicken silver metallic oil-based paint. However, this should be avoided as this product is designed for thickening resins, not paints.
