This is a sturdily-built depth gauge tool that comes with a plastic protective case. It does not come with NIST traceability, but the user can get it calibrated to achieve this. The unit can be used with different extension rods and the base can be removed. The tool is all-metal, with only the case being plastic, and comes with some documentation. It has a pointy feeler and can be sharpened further if necessary. Reviewers have praised the accuracy of this tool, with one customer stating that it was able to calibrate the unit against their NIST micrometer and found no adjustments were necessary. A machinist found the tool easy to use and liked the digital readout. Another customer found that the tool had a learning curve in determining the correct measurement, but overall an excellent buy. However, one customer found that the tool was not a precision tool, as it had a deviation of 0.002 for every inch, which could increase to 0.01 with the use of the 4-inch adapter. Additionally, one customer found that the tool was not suitable for measuring depths of more than 1 inch realistically and was disappointed that they missed the return date.
